Construct Equilateral Triangle

This example demonstrates how to construct an equilateral triangle using a compass and ruler. An equilateral triangle is a triangle whose sides are of equal length.

  1. Start by drawing the base of the triangle as a line with two end points.

    Step 1
  2. Using a compass place the spike of the compass at one point and the drawing tip at the second point and draw an arc upwards.

    Step 2
  3. Repeat the step above for the other point.

    Step 3
  4. Draw a dot at the point where the two arcs intersect.

    Step 4
  5. Draw lines from the new point to the first two points.

    Step 4

We have finished constructing an equilateral triangle.
